Ruby Ambrotype

Ruby Ambrotype

Gorgeous ruby ambrotype of a woman sitting in a traditional Victorian photo studio. The ring on her right hand is a nice detail. This could be displayed in a lot of interesting ways, depending on how creative you want to get.

It has no case, but is in otherwise nice condition.

{Ambrotypes are one-of-a-kind photographs printed directly on glass, in a wet-plate process. They will either appear as a positive or a negative, depending on what is behind them (if you hold it up to light, it becomes a negative). They weren't in fashion for very long (only the 1850's) because shortly after their introduction the tintype came along - which is almost indistinguishable from an ambrotype when properly displayed behind glass.}
